RETINA REGENERATION

“Retina Regeneration” is an animation depicting our current understanding of retina regeneration in zebrafish.  It shows the response of the zebrafish retina to a needle-poke-induced injury.  It demonstrates the ability of retinal Muller glia to contribute to retina regeneration by dedifferentiating into multipotent retinal stem cells that can generate new neurons and glia for retinal repair.  A major goal of the work in the Goldman Lab is to identify the signaling pathways and transcription factors that mediate Muller glia dedifferentiation in response to retinal injury.  The animation represents a collaboration between brothers Daniel and Harvey Goldman. Harvey Goldman is Chancellor Professor of Design at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth.
